Northern Brown Bandicoot Food Part 2

Added by Jeff Hardwick & Mark Crocombe

Bandicoots were hunted for food by women with dogs on their daily foraging trips. Small animals such as these and quokkas, bettongs, rock wallabies, possums and native rats existed in millions right across Australia. After European colonisation widespread land clearing and the introduction of cats and foxes wiped them out. Bandicoots survived because of their rapid reproduction rates and living in dense habitat.
